Sim Trava teams up with Project Choice
Between the award wins, the coffee-making masterclasses and new store openings, you could say things at Sim Trava have been a bit busy. And while this is an exciting and challenging time for us, we think it’s important to show there is more to our family-run business than just commercial success. With this in mind, today we are proud to announce that we have partnered with Project Choice.
Project Choice is a supported internship programme which helps young people with learning difficulties, disabilities and autism gain work experience and skills. Strengthening Sim Trava’s commitment to giving back to the local community, our involvement in the scheme will be to provide these young people with the necessary workplace training while they continue studying for a City and Guilds qualification. This is a project we are delighted to be involved in and are really looking forward to welcoming two students from Gateshead college into the Sim Trava family.
The placement started last Monday and will last six weeks with our new team members, Gary and Cameron, spending four days a week at our Wallsend store and one day a week in college. Our new-starts will be introduced to customer service, general admin and what it’s like to be a barista at a Sim Trava-owned Costa Coffee.
Sim Trava has almost a decade of experience in helping hundreds of young people take the first step in their careers so we know the positive impact that training of this kind can have. This scheme gives young people with learning disabilities a greater understanding of the world of work, the importance of identifying which skillsets match which jobs and will also create more opportunities for them in the future.
We feel very fortunate to be able to offer a helping hand, and we are ready and prepared to welcome our new members. We are confident that all Sim Trava colleagues will be able to offer the kind of practical and enjoyable work experience that will put our new members in good stead for their later careers.
